I've got a pair of SodHoppers knee-high boots - he sewed a sheath into the top of the right boot for me.

They're not actually "historical," but they offer me exactly what I need in footwear: good ankle support, good traction, and a place to stick my orthotics.

Mine are two-toned redwood and tobacco buffalo hide in a "natural" edge cuff at the top, and brown antler buttons.

They look good with a feileadh bhreacain - nothing to completely jar the eye, anyway - and keep me walking better than any other pair of shoes I've got. My set's got at least twelve years of walking in 'em, at least one weekend a month and one week solid every year.

You can never go wrong with Doc Martens - classic, practical, timeless styling; long-lasting; great comfort. They go great with a tank/t-shirt casual combo (& slouched kilt hose) & of course they're perfect for a modern style kilt, like a UK. I've actually been surprised at how often I've been complimented on the Docs when wearing them with my kilts.

It may be as the result of my personal history, but I see Doc Martens through the eyes of an ex-punk rock wanna be. Anything other than the classic 8 hole (or, if pushed, classic oxfords) are not really Doc Martens in my mind, and when I wear them, I see myself as I was in the 80's, with multiple piercing and counter culture clothing. At my advanced age, I just am starting to feel silly in Docs.

Oddly, I think they look great on others.

However, as comfortable and durable as the Docs are, the Keens are at least more comfortable, and I really hope they hold up well.

I actually bought these Rockport boots a few years ago for hiking and then never wore them much. They sat in my closet and now I wear them all the time. They are great for casual (even in the office) with the hose pushed down or more formal (business casual or better) and the hose pulled up, with or without flashes. I just need a pair in brown now. They do breathe well and are waterproof.
