sporran strap question
Is it acceptable to wear a black sporran strap with a brown sporran for casual wear? And for a black sporran and brown straps?

If it's a solid color sporran, the straps should match. Now with two tone sporrans, you ought to be able to wear a strap of either color, but the strap should match your kilt belt.
That being said, if it's all you've got wear what you have, just know that the people on this board may say something.

I am just deciding which to get first. I have both a brown and a black sporran; I wear the black more, but the brown will be worn more in the warmer months.

I'd have to agree with Dave - if the sporran is monochrome, the sporran strap/belt should be the same color as the sporran. If the sporran is 2-tone, then match the sporran belt with the predominate color.
I understand it's a matter of perspective, but buying 2 sporran belts seems like a minor expenditure compared with many kilt accessories. Go ahead, splurge - you're worth it!

That said, Retro Red, what would be your recommendation?

You might want to consider what color belt you will wear more often, and what color shoes you will wear.
I figure the sporran strap and sporran should follow the convention of matching your belt to your shoes. Just seems like the natural thing to do.
As to which one to buy? Both would be the best!
Another option to consider might be that a black sporran strap used with a brown sporran, while not the best combination, would seem to be a better combination than a brown strap with a black sporran if in a pinch.

Your leathers need to match, Norby. That rule goes for kilts or pants.
You'll look like a goober, otherwise.
There are inexpensive alternatives to expensive sporran straps. Someone once posted a link to skinny belts that are sold at Hot Topic - that store kids shop at at the mall. I took a black shoulder strap from one of my wife's old purses to use with my black sporran.
Good luck!

I was thinking about getting one of those made by a fellow Xmarks member (can't remember whom), if they are still available. Kilt dough running low, but I think I can swing one. I got a kilt from Buzz Kidder coming, and mama is watching the checking account like a hawk. Something about needing to pay the bills.

Yeah, wives can be a real drag, that way.

Best bet is to match leathers. Will avoid confusion of any kind. It you have two-tone or multi-color leathers, then you are in the clear.
