Welcome from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. As far as wearing your kilt out of your home or at family events, just do this. First go out side and then just go where you would normally go. I bet most comments will be nice, and it won't be as bad as you think. There may be a few comments, but you will handle it just fine.

Somewhere on this forum are replys to give when you do get a negative commnet.

What color is your kilt, and what make? We here to help you and encourage you, and to laugh with you from the stories you will tell.

    DALE.

Welcome. You now, like so few others before you, know exactly where every extra penny you ever earn will be spent: at a kilt shop.

Welcome to the forum. And no matter if you're of Scottish descent or not, wear your kilt often and proudly.

As for reactions, if you wear your kilt consistently you'll find that soon those in your local area will actually come to expect you to be kilted. I think people would be shocked here to see me in anything other than a kilt. At my favorite restaurants and stores they even recognize immediately when I've got a new kilt!

Welcome. I'll second the you don't have to be Scottish to wear a kilt! or I'm screwed if you do.

Welcome to XMarks. The best way to build confidence in wearing your kilt public is to just do it. I think you will find that the majority of people really don't care what you are wearing as long as you look decent.

Hello BW82 and welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll have a great time here. With regard to wearing your Cilt/Kilt in London .. I have worn mine there loads of times and have NEVER experienced any problems. Heres a piccy with the mrs and my mother taken in Covent Garden last year. In point of fact Covent Garden might be the place to head for first if you feel a bit unsure .. so many arty people about .. no one will notice you. Just go for it!

Welcome from Utah and if a person can wear a kilt in Utah you should have no problem in London depending on what yahoos pub you visit.
