I would DEFINITELY suggest Body Glide. We started selling it and would highly recommend it for running in a kilt. I would also suggest a 4 or 5 yard kilt so the pleats and weight doesn't throw you off at all.
While I'm not a runner, I have done a quick jaunt to catch a bus. I would suggest you NOT run with a loaded, heavy sporran. It's like repeatedly punching yourself in the groin. HAHAHAHA... but SERIOUSLY. It was one of those situations where you were in a LOT of pain, but couldn't help laugh at yourself.

Next time you are around a bunch of cattle notice that it is the young ones who do the running and jumping. The old bulls are a more focused and damn near never in a hurry.

Mountain Kilt for running
Just a thought, given the recent discussion on the Mountain Kilt. It's very lightweight and has a "modesty snap" on the hem, so it would seem a natural choice. I haven't tried running in mine (it only arrived yesterday), but I did try some wide strides and it seemed not to bind.

I think the USA casual would be perfect. It's very comfortable and light enough to move with you rather than creating more resistance.

I ran my first race yesterday in a kilt. We have a 5 miler in my town. My wife insisted, that I wear the kilt. The experience went a million times better than I thought it would. I wore a 5 yard scottish national vicose/acetate and my x-marks tee shirt, and running shorts under (good advice thank you.) Before the race I had a couple of guys come up to me and identify themselves as Scots and I asked them where their kilts werewhich got a laugh. All along the race I heard people say "Go kilt guy" and "Nice kilt" which really helped keep me motivated. After the race a few guys came up to me and asked me what it was like running in the kilt, It was quite comfortable, just a little warm around the waist, the advice about a USA casual came to mind and I told them to check out Rocky. A visit to Rocky may be in my future as soon as I can convince my wife. Here are a couple of pictures.
In the beginning of the race with my daughter giving me a high five. The line is a shaft of light.
At the end of the race, I ran it in 40 minutes a new personal best!
Thanks for all of your help this was a great time. I may have to do this again. The Broad Street run is this weekend but they are calling for rain.

Lookin' good! Congratulations on your time and the PB. Must have been the kilt that helped?

Seems that this should go on that list of Top Reasons to Wear a Kilt, whoever maintains such a list: "Helps you be your personal best."
Great photos, thanks for sharing them. Looks like you had a lot of fun.

What's the point of wearing a kilt to run if you are going to wear running shorts under it?
Have some confidence in God's design of your body, fellas. I work, run, hike, bike and copulate in a kilt, virtually always regimental. For what it's worth, your body is designed to pull your pieces parts up close to your body when you are being vigorously active.
What you risk in going regimental is someone seeing your willy in that sad state of being shrunk up for the occassion of vigorous excercise ... not impressive. Since Body Glide pretty much takes care of all other issues then embarrassment is the only real issue left.
If you must, wear colored briefs or a jock or, even better, a thong. You'll be in keeping with most every region's laws on modesty and, should God Himself so choose to allow His wind to lift your kilt, at least noone can accuse you of wearing your kilt 'school girl style'.
Shorts under your kilt, please, for the sake of us all, anything but shorts.
Kilt On!
