    or maybe monkeys? wait, no.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm just trying to track down if McKendry had origins in Ireland or if it only originated in Scotland. If I can track it back then I can hopefully find a clan with a tartan that I can connect to.

In the meantime I'm still jonesing for a county sligo tartan in a MAC Newsome box pleat!

    genealogy...

Start with George F. Black's Surnames of Scotland:Their Origin, Meaning and History: Birlinn Ltd, ca. 1996.

But, here is some food for thought:

Please be aware, that this does not mean your family absolutely originated in Scotland or is absolutely connected with one Clan. In order to determine your roots in Scotland[or Ireland], you would need to do genealogical research on your own family.
In other words, whilst a look-up of a surname may give a general overview of the history of that name, only genealogical research will really determine where your family is from.

    Cheers,

    Todd

Todd, absolutely! I'm trying to track down the history, but am getting stuck at my great-great-grandfather who was born in Ireland. I'm trying to find records and trace back even further but have hit a wall so far.
