charcoal 13oz
Yes, the Heather is somewhat different from solid. Some lighter greys intermixed with the darker.
As for weight, thickness: on the shoulder you would have lining (lightweight broadcloth), canvas, coat layer of wool, cape layer of wool. If you have ever seen an old military greatcoat, basically same weight of wool. Think heavy wool blanket.

What measurements do you need?

When I was in military college I had a simple cape that was, it turns out, charcoal heather. Way, way nicer than solid charcoal. It was probably 21 oz, by your description. Two layers of that is going to be very warm.
My military cape had a red lining (not quite scarlet) that looked very flashy. On parade we folded the right flap over our shoulder, so the lining was exposed. I wish I could find a picture. We only wore capes rarely.

Old style. Sorry, best I can give at the moment. basically, the cape covers the front, shoulders, an a little at the back. The new style, the cape goes all the way around.
Measurements
- chest
- waist(because it will be slightly tailored)
- shoulder to shoulder across the back of the neck
- collar to your waist
- neck size
- for length, collar to wherever you prefer ie. mid-calf, just below the knee etc.
- for cape, do you want it to the elbow or the wrist. For elbow, centre of neck to elbow; for wrist, centre of neck to wrist.
I think thats it.

Good God, Ron you are a ringknocker . I know the capes you speak of, thought they were a navy/midnight colour? For lining, choice will be grey or red. Like you say, very flash.
For weight, like I said, I can also get a really nice 16oz in a grey heather.

Can't knock a ring if you don't have one. I got punted in fourth year (21 years ago).

So these measurements should be taken on top of the jacket I will wear beneath the cape?

No jacket underneath, unless you mean kilt jacket. Then , yes, over that.

RRMC or RMC?

an offer you can't refuse...I hope.
Back to the top...because the swatches arrived.
21oz is the way to go and the charcoal heather is great. Very close to black, but with lighter hairs involved. It would go great in most climates, excluding the obvious where snow and rain are almost unheard of.
If there are 3 of you guys interested within the next few days, I'll make the offer of $250 USD plus shipping. After the first three I'll have to knock them up to $300.
Hope there's some interest.
Actually, belay that offer. From now until September, the price will be $250 plus shipping.

What a freaking great deal!
I hope your sewing machine is tuned up with a deal like that. Hang in there.
I wish I could help you out, but I'm in the middle of selling the house and buying a new one and trying to find more money in a job. I hate to miss a deal like this, but maybe before September.
