UK had (or has) on its site some instructions for washing and hang drying their kilts.

I do pretty much the same thing with all my homemade cotton and poly/cotton kilts, machine washing only when necessary in warm water and hanging them overnight to dry. Press them with a hot steam iron and they're ready to go again.

I've had 5 canvas Utilikilts for nearly 3 years. I wash in cold water, snap it all closed & hang to air dry (which in Arizona in the summertime takes about 5 minutes

), smoothing out all the pleats by hand from the top of the pleat to the bottom while kind of curving the pleat slightly to follow the flow of the pleats around the body. I never iron a canvas kilt (just like I'd never iron blue jeans). The more the canvas softens, the easier it is to smooth out.

Is this a request for information on how to make canvas kilts (ie. cotton, cotton/poly, camo, etc.)? If so, the link below has been the starting point for many of us. Jan did a good job writing his instructions, entitled "Modern kilts" - and including others' instructions, as well. His one graphic on a top view of pleating WILL show up on the test. :rolleyes:

5 minutes ouch! I throw mine in the dryer
