    It's my understanding that it's entirely possible to get clean sound from PVC.

    After all, Blue Man Group has been making PVC-based instruments for a long time now.

    re: the plastic...that's what the Dunbar Bagpipes are made of...and one of the most interesting bits of business about that is that the chap in the Middle East - that Sgt. Farr fella - is using them in that totally inhospitable climate and they're resisting the elements.

    I got an Irish Flute in D made by Doug Tipple and it's PVC with a copper joint and it's fantastic...great tone and zero maintenance.

    Plastic...it's the new Blackwood.
