The black loops on the inside are for hanging the kilt.
I stopped using the belt loops and just put the sporran strap/chain over my kilt belt. If you wear the chain belt alot it may damage the kilt. I use a strap and chain maybe once every two months.

should i look into buying a leather sporran belt/strap?
i heard that the chain will wear out the fabric.

I prefer the leather straps. Not only to protect the kilt. I like the look of a leather strap, just not a chain type of guy.

YES! There is a X Marker out there who makes them (Cavscout, but I don't know if he is still taking orders). Otherwise get one from your kilt supplier. Or do what I did and go to Target, look in Women's Accessories, and get a 3/4" wide plain black belt in the right length (works great, looks fine, but doesn't have the cool looking clasps and fittings that Cavscout's have though).
Cheers

One more question...does it ruin the pleats to sit too long in your kilt? I have my kilt for my wedding and my fiance gets worried i am going to cruch the pleats. can't piss off the boss. i've got really expensive pictures to take post wedding and during reception.
is there anywhere i can get a list or is there a site i can find how to assemble my kilt outfit? (pins, belt, sporran, hose, shoes, etc.?)

You are, what?, a 28" waist?? I regret to say that I think I would have to go to an equestrian tack shop.

Rex,
Actually the tan/brown belt I just picked up (last one in the right color) was a 2X and I will have to cut it down and punch a new belt hole in it. Don't sell yourself short...err....large...hmm...whatever. And I will have you know I have quite the rugged frame and very manly ...err 36" waist...ok I'll shut up now...
