Well, I had to throw some (more) clothes on to return some DVDs to the rental store, so I decided to snap a pic anyway before heading to bed.

The black Stewart has this yellow running through it; I thought it went OK with the tartan.

Yeah, I see some adjustments are going to have to be made (and not just with the kilt!). Pity, it is, because I like that dark band at the bottom, and it'll have to go.

    G'night,
    R.

Personally I like the high rise of a traditional kilt. It simply feels more comfortable to me. Most of the light weight and modern kilts are cut with the expectation that they will be worn at a pant-level waistline. Whereas you can easily wear an SWK at the full traditional height without worry, and that's what I do.

I wear my SWK kilt at the same height as my tanks - approximately 1 inch above my navel. At my sides, the top of the kilt rise gently brushes against my ribs. It looks quite good according to all who have seen it, and I would highly recommend trying it out at that height.

Wear that kilt just a little bit higher and you won't need to hem it at all. Plus, there is something just secure about having a garment belted at that level.

I'm with Glassman on this. That picture looks good, Rex. That height, or a slightly higher, would look great.

    Thumbs up

I agree that it looks most distinguished on you sir. My own kilts migrate from the top to the bottom of the knee. When I wore my perfectly custom tailored Freedom Kilt to my usual haunt two sundays past, the first comment I got was, "Love the mini!"

An alternative to hemming that I have indulged in recently on a couple of ebay won kilts is to run a double straight stitch round the intended hem length, cut the excess material off about a half inch below that and then pull out all of the horizontal threads. This gives you a fringe round the bottom and saves the expense or trouble of hemming. Definetely non-traditional, but cool.

Learn from the past but live in the present, I say. And kilt on, dude.
    I've kilt for less.

That makes 3 of us. I think it looks great Rex. The kilt being worn higher is something I am still getting used to myself.

Now that I've seen the pic, I agree that wearing it a bit higher will do.

Rex, I think the kilt looks great on you, try wearing it a few times and working with the waist and belt level, you can wear the belt at the proper waist level and pull some of the kilt up above the belt. The belt doesn't have to go through the belt loops. In fact most recommend wearing the belt outside of the loops.

Gee, Cawdorian beat me to it...I was going to suggest the same thing (forget the belt loops and pull the kilt up a wee bit.) A wider kilt belt will keep things in place better and improve the overall look.
