I think there is another point-a few years ago he almost certainly would not have worn highland dress-be it correct or otherwise. Too the average person will just see a chap in a kilt, and a famous one at that.

The effect is to slightly enhance the public perception of the kilt as an acceptable garment to wear.

So in the end it makes it easier for all of us to wear the kilt when going about our day to day activities-wear it for as special occasion or whatever.

You guys that are knocking the concept of "wrestling boots with kilt" need to remember that one of our members, Derek, wears canvas boots that are damn near the same thing, and we all him kudos for them; it's a good look, when done right. I wouldn't wear those high-top Ghillies, but if Converse made Derek's boots in a mens 13(US), I'd have a pair already.

The New York Times this week has run a couple of articles about the Costume Institute event that was attended by Mr. McQueen and Ms. Parker. It was an opening for "AngloMania: Tradition and Transgression in British Fashion" (my italics), which sort of puts the twist on the formal kilt look into better perspective. (There are more photos of Mr. McQueen on the Web now, and yes, that was a string tie, and it does appear that the kilt is on straight.)

In this review of the exhibition, the archetypal English dandy and pal of George IV, Beau Brummel, is credited with popularizing trousers.

Well, at least now we know whom to blame.

    Regards,
    Rex in Cincinnati

No, it's correct. Look at the strap and buckle.

SJP & Mr. McQueen happen to be main news in our main social rag 'Hello' magazine this month. (Yes, It's a bit OTT but if you saw what Vivien Westwood wore, they look like saints. )I'm glad he wore a kilt and as previous posts mentioned, it's as you'd expect from a designer on a catwalk. Dead chuffed though as my first own hand-sewn was also in McQueen!!!
