    I tie mine at the side, but many pipebands tie them at the front, in a band you simly tie them the way the pipe major says (without quibble)

    The way dear old dad taught me was to pull the laces and snug up the brogue. Then do 3 twist, pass the laces around the back of your leg and cross them, bring them back around to the front and tie them with a normal bow knot. Tassled ends should hang a bit.

    That's my 2 cents.
