Derek, I was right where you are just a few months ago. I didn't think I'd ever get over it (as a matter of fact I'm tearing up a bit right now), but Fred, the energentic new stray that found us just before the passing of our dear Annie has really filled the void. Hang in there.

condolescens...
I'm sorry to hear that, Derek. I also know what's to see a 4 legged friend die, but circumstances were different in my case... The last dog I had was a german shepherd that died in 1995, during a burning around our country house area. He tried to attack the firemen as he was really nervous and excited as we all were fighting the flames, so I put him inside my car to avoid problems. It was August, when temperatures here easily arrive to 40ºC, but with the burning the area suffered over 50ºC. I lost 5 kilos in a 24 hours. My dog died because of my silly action ...with all that heat the car was like an oven and he suffered a heat shock and some carbon monoxide intoxication. When i noticed what was happening it was too late... I only had time to see him diying in my arms...
... I'll never have another dog.
