Anyone here a kilt wearing firefighter?

They will probably chime in, but Glassman is/was, and I believe PossingK, Hosehead, and KiltedFirePiper are as well. There may be others.

The kilt concealed a blaster strapped to his thigh. Lazarus Long

I already knew about Glassman and I thought KiltedFirePiper might be just based on his name.

I fly Search & Rescue, occasionally doing some spotting work for forest fires. Do I count?

Yes, you count. Cool job, by the way.

I am a volunteer Lieutenant in Central PA. Several months ago we started an Emerald Society Pipes and Drums...just getting off the ground in the area...
Lots of work ahead.
Moosehead...maybe we should design some nomex or PBI kilts

Hosehead,
first kilt I made has Nomex hanging straps! Wouldn't want a whole kilt out of the stuff though. It would be like wearing 30oz wool.

I rolled with Phonix Fire Department for five years on their crisis wagons...Alternative Response they called it. All codes, drunks, anything we could do to help put the firefighters back into service. Never a firefighter though...never kilted back then...one of the big mistakes of my life was not getting into the fire service at a young age. Great people.

I wear kilts pretty regularly
I am also a firefighter...structure, and wildland (aka "brush bunny")
presently I reserve with a small dept. just outside of Tucson called Avra Valley, it's about a 500 square mile district, mostly farm, "prefab " homes......but we are expirencing rapid growth! we will have a total of about 6000 homes that should be complete by summers end, and more to come.
everyones tryin to get out of the city so their comming out here.
I start Paramedic school in Aug. and then (hopefully) I will become a fulltime benefitted member. in the mean time I will do the wildland /reserve thing.
lookin forward to a GOOD (read lots of fires) fire season cause the more fires I get the less I will have to work during school.
I am also hoping to get an interagency pipeband going since our IAFF local comprises of several FD's. as of right now if a piper is needed for Avra Valley I'm the one they call.
hence the name Kilted Fire Piper
