The SK hose are a pretty good value. If you have larger calves, you could detect the skin, but only from close range. If anybody is close enought to see that, they better take a look up and do a kilt check as well while they are there!

SK has some good colors too.

I bought a pair of the black soccer socks from Dick's when I got my Gordon Modern. These were good for getting started. Once I tried the Hamilton Dry Goods socks they have become my socks of choice. When I'm ready for some more I'll contact him about other colors but I'm good for now with two pair of cream (off-white). They do cost a bit more than soccer socks but unless you want to pay $30 dollars for hose to fit a large calf these are the way to go. At $8 for a sock that gives you a beefy cuff and stay up without garters you gotta love it.

The only other's that might be a better deal are W. Brewin which Ron gave a review of somewhere but they don't sound like they handle large calfs as well.

The British Shop in New York State also has pipers hose in 3 colors, and I think they're cotton, but you might want to check to make sure:

    Update:

The Piper Hose at the British Shop are a wool and nylon blend according to Carol at the British Shop website.
