Royal Military College of Canada Graduation Ball
Here is me and the lovely bride on our way to the Graduation Ball at RMC in Kingston, Ontario:
The kilt is a rented Hunting Stewart which was a bit too long. I jacked it up for the photo. At the ball there were at least two other civilians similarly attired and one young fellow (high school age?) dressed like in Caradoc's avatar. I congratulated him for being in a kilt, but really he was as underdressed as if he had worn jeans. I wish I had pictures of some of the other people at the ball in all their finery. The mess kit for female naval officers is stunning. And there were probably a half dozen kilted officers, most of them in the college scarlet uniform with MacKenzie tartan.
It was my first time out in a kilt, but given the location, nobody batted an eyelid or made any comment about it. We fit in perfectly.
I was, however, asked The Question for the first time at 8:57 pm on May 20, 2006 by a vivacious blonde French-Canadian former officer. My wife, who had not understood the question (I had not explained the term "regimantal" to her) nontheless recognised that I had been prepared for it. She said that my face had the expression it gets when I relish an opportunity. I made a big show of saying that a gentleman never discusses such matters. She complained that whenever she asks that she gets the same answer! Then she had to turn to her friend and translate the entire discussion into French. We all had a good laugh.
This is me the day before in trousers just after having been granted the degree of Bachelor of Science by the Canadian Minister of National Defence.
As described in this thread, it was a very big day for me and my family. But now I am back on the west coast, with a math mid-term tomorrow, and I haven't started studying. I'd best get the nose back to the grindstone.

Hi,
Congratulations on your achievement; both you and your lovely wife look positively grand.
Bob
In theory there is no difference between theory and practice but in practice there is.

Congatulations! I'll bet the time that has passed has made your accomplishment even sweeter. You both look fantastic by the way.

My avatar pic is a baggy shirt and breacan feileadh - a great kilt.
Yes, that would be a bit underdressed for a modern formal affair. A Sheriffmuir or Montrose doublet with a great kilt and animal-mask sporran, on the other hand, would be "high formal," or "white-tie".
Of course, one wouldn't wear ghillie brogues with that outfit, but buckle shoes.
