    I found this badge on a Stewart page and remembered "vulning".


    But she looks like she's taking care of the wee ones, not giving herself a poke.

    According to legend, the pelican pierces her own breast to feed her children. In Christian traditions, the pelican represents the self-sacrifice of Christ.

    Iwas going to mention that...thanks...I've seen this image in a whole lot of iconography mostly in Roman Catholic churches. I didn't notice it until once when I was in high school...an upperclassman explained it and as I've gone along I've found that it shows up a lot. I should try to take note of whether the congregations were originally from Northern Europe or elsewhere...I think that the image probably originated there...it would be interesting to suss that one out.

    But let's not go all "DaVinci Code" over this!
