I have to throw my vote for a quaich as well. I recently got one for myself and love it. It looks great on display and has been used appropriately a few times. My quaich looks similar to this

Some other good ones can be found here http://scottishkilts.net/store/celtic_quaichs.html
Another idea to go along with the quaich is as Todd suggested, a pin (if he were wearing a kilt) and a hip flack or as I did for my groomsmen a tankard with an engraving on it.

I've had some rather fine single malts that were between 7 and 10 years old -like the Ardbeg 10 Year, or the Speyburn 10 Year, or even the Loch Dhu 10 Year (and, yes, I'm aware that the last is akin to blasphemy.)
Don't forget Laphroaig 10 year....of course, I have a few 15 year old malts that a REEEEEAAALLLYYY nice.

I got all my groomsmen flasks (as seen in the do's and don'ts thread). In addition I gave my bestman a scarf in his family tartan (even though he is not a kilt wearer...yet).

If I was the best man a bottle of Malt would suffice, I piped at a retirement about 2 weeks ago and got a nice bottle, cant remmeber what it was but it went down a treat.

I guess a kilt is out of the question? Or a gift certificate to a kilt store, at least?

thankyou people! :)
I just wanted to say "thanks" to everyone who chipped in with gift suggestions in response to my post - I really found them useful and supportive.
If I go with the quaich, I might just have to give him a small bottle of something to 'fill' the quaich with... just to be sure. ;)
Although - and I know this is blasphemy, but - I wouldn't know a good whiskey (unless it was glenfiddich or laphroag, and then it's only 'cause I know the name) if I fell over it!
cheers folks!!
