Great belt buckles

Bill, I had that same thought. I think it should work, although I am not a leather worker myself, but you probably could not go a lot wider without it looking unbalanced.

There are several ways to use a wider strap. One is to replace the wire hoop on the rear of the buckle. The other is to stitch on narrower pieces at both ends of the belt. This looks neater than cutting down, and is the way many western wear belts are made. You do have to be careful or the buckle looks disproportionate or you end up with a belt that looks like a weight lifter.

Although it would take a sewing machine, could the belt be made like a ranger? This of course would be more work and out of the realm of the typical DIY unless it could be cut and then taken to a shoe shop to sew.
