I don't often wear flashes. I wear a simple elastic garter to keep the hose up mostly. I save the flashes for dressing up.

In general, I wear plain flashes anytime I wear actual hoses. If I don't wear the flashes, I feel it looks a bit too 'Catholic school-girl'. Personal taste, though. So for me, it's hose + flashes, or more normal socks scrunched all the way down.

My personal preference is to wear kilt hose pulled up with solid color flashes.
But with my long thin shins I don't think I would look good in pushed down hose. Too much skin between the tops of shoes/boots and bottom of kilt.
If I'm just around the house I might leave off the flashes, and the sporran. I'd never go out without the sporran however.

Now flashes are pretty simple. Any of you guys make your own? I would think it would be super easy...

Whenever I wear hose pulled up, I wear flashes. I have some tartan ones, but I find I wear the solid colours much more often. It's just a matter of what you prefer.

I'll have to say I like solid colors better, when I wear flashes. I do have one pair of Black Watch tartan flashes, but if I am wearing dark hose (navy or black) they almost disappear! I also like coordinating the flashes and shirt color sometimes, which is not possible with tartan flashes.

Hmmm,
Realize I have a collection of matching tartan flashes, various colored flashes, and elastic without flashes to hold my kilt hose up.
What I wear with any kilt & shirt sorta depends on how I think it'll look best...a random thing from day to day.
Have found that some tartan flashes look okay with solid kilts or even similar tartans, even though not an exact match due to the way the tartan flash was cut.
Wondering if we'll develop a new look on the edge of kilting fashion...pushed down kilt hose with flashes sticking out of the pushed down hose....?
And, I'm wondering about all those pics in the TFCK catalog where the models have tied strips of colored cloth around their legs...is that a street gang thing or a fashion look or an attempt at the old fashioned tied cloth flashes like Matt was talking about?
