I was reluctant to just toss on a cap like that with the kilt but I remembered that most of the field judges at the last couple of Highland Games were wearing caps and they cut right dashing figures out there on the pitch all kilted and capped.

And those of us who are fair of flesh...

    "God...you are SO white!"
"No...I come from Scots...we actually start out light blue and we have to spend a couple of hours out in the sun just to GET white."

...and those of us who are "follically challenged" have to take appropriate precautions lest we provide our dermatologists with a few more boat payments.

This harkens back to previous threads about what types of hats look good with the kilt...ol' Ackwell (where has that young scalliwag been lately, anyhow?) posted a photo with his beret that looked good...the cowboy hat thing has been tossed about...whaddaya gonna do?

Oh, and to stay on topic, I don't see anything wrong with the hat and sunglasses; I would wear a different kind of hat, like a roadster or newsboy, but that's just a personal preference thing.

Stolen from Billy Connolly, or did Billy steal it from someone else?

Definitely a Connolly quote...in my case it's all too true...and I hate the smell of sunscreen and try to spend a lot of time out in the middle of a river with a flyrod in my hand...so I'm the one wearing the long sleeve shirt and the fingerless unconvincingly-flesh-colored gloves in ninety degree weather. When I got to high school and encountered African American guys that were my peer group they would say stuff like, "Man, you take white to a whole new level." One chromosone takes a wee step to the right and I'm an albino...which means I can get cool parts as assassins in Tom Hanks movies.

But I was trying to sympathize with Derek here...some of us have to wear a hat of some kind and it does make one pause and think when they have to find something that'll look good (or at the least not incongruous) with the kilt. Wear a fedora and you're likely to have somebody come up and say, "How's it going Indiana MacJones?". Pith helmets are right out...unless, of course, you happen to be a kilted mailman. You might get away with one of these:

...but would you really want to?

(Which is a dumb question to ask in THIS group because SOMEBODY is gonna say, "Hey! I always wanted one of those hats! It'll look great with my MacZulu Ancient Muted tank! Thanks for the link!")

...and just to be silly (you mean he gets SILLIER?)

You could try one of these:

    http://budk.com/product.asp?pn=BK974&bhcd2=1149527419

...it would also protect the bridge of your nose and spare you having to smear it with the zinc-oxide cream...I'd think about spray painting it white, though...the black might get a tad warm in hot sunlight...of course then you'd look like a Star Wars storm trooper and everybody would be aksing if the Star Wars Con was in town...
