    Texas Music Pix

These are pix from the Texas Scottish Festival this last saturday.

On the more traditional side: Ed Miller was great. He had two fiddlers with him and it was fantastic. Sorry no pix turned out. Also, Beyond The Pale and Paisley Close put on some good sets.

The place got rocking later that evening starting and ending with Enter The Haggis:

Then a band from DownUnder called Brother got the place on its feet.

Did I mention they had dancers. When the dancers came out the jaws started dropping... lol:

Oh, you want to see the dancers:

Another great gang was a local group from Dallas called Needfire. They were really fun:

All the bands at the evenings Celtic Rock blow out were worth seeing IMHO.
Hope to see them all again soon.

    Cheers.

Looks like a rabble-rousing concert! And, since Ed Miller lives in Texas, I would guess that he is a regular at the local events. Ed is probably my favorite of the Scottish folksingers. But I wanna see the pipes with bellydancers!

Scottish Mayhem plays at Scarborough Faire in Waxahachie. They share the stage with a belly dance group, so they usually have dancers with them at some point during their sets. That ren fair usually ends the weekend before the Texas Scottish Festival, so you get a lot of people in ren faire withdrawl showing up at the Scottish fest in questionable attire, usually looking a little lost and ending up in the music tents.

I was there Saturday for the solo piping comps but had to leave shortly after for a band gig in Fort Worth. A few of us came back to the festival afterward in time to hear Needfire's last tune. Needfire's piper, Brad Madison, is a member of our band, but we managed without him, just. I really enjoy Needfire's instrumentals the most. After their final song Enter the Haggis came in. I was expecting Bad Haggis for some reason. I can only keep track of a limited number of bands, I guess. Enter the Haggis was good. I'd have enjoyed a bit more piping in the tunes, but I'm a glutton for punishment.
