I think it's the hose and flashes that's the problem with the girls' uniform.

no, actually the day was quite hot. Apparently it's never rained on Founders' Day. There's always a medical emergency team standing by, but parading is the pensioner's decision. The oldest guy on parade was 101. Several who couldn't march, drove their "go carts" in double file at the rear of the march past. The uniforms are those of Marlborough's Army, apparently. Your point about the monarchy is well taken: I think it was the Victorian commentator Walter Bagehot who remarked on this advantage too.

Thanks for the steer on the Account Option. I've sorted it out now. I've got a few more to upload today.

No, actually Sod's Law came into play - I couldn't find my regimental tie (it should have been in my tie drawer and for all I know it still is, along with handerchiefs, passport, braces, and the usual odds and ends that get stuffed into places out of the way), so I wore an Army and Navy Club striped tie.

On an irritating partisan note, before the Fanfare, the band played "Lutzow's Wild Hunt" (the regimental march of the King's Royal Rifle Corps - 60th Rifles - passing into oblivion as 3rd Bn Royal Green Jackets) but being a Guards' band they didn't sound it with silver bugles and played it too slow - there were several agonised faces among the Light Infantrymen and Rifles in our stand.
