Kathy Lare, a kiltmaker over in Albuquerque, is one of the few - or maybe the only - U.S. Kiltmaker trained at the Keith School in Scotland. She has years of experience.
Maybe, if your lady met her, or saw her work, she'd appreciate and "allow" a fine handsewn tank in an appropriate tartan (Kathy can order any tartan) at your wedding. Kilts are all the rage for weddings now.
Thanks a million on the link to her. I've seen her name pop up numerous times in the different boards here, but had no idea she was in ALB. As far as the wedding, that's happening the 8th of next month. I ordered my first kilt for the event from www.heritageofscotland.com. I haven't seen any threads mention them. Anyone heard of or ordered through them? Anyway, I ordered and received a 5 yd traditional in the Henderson ancient tartan. Yeah, it's no "tank," but I'm plenty proud of it since it's my first and it is a wool kilt instead of a polyblend. I paid just over $300 american (I can't remember the exact amount after the currency change.) I've ordered some necessities from SWK (sporran, kilt hose, kilt belt, sgain dubh) at amazing prices . I will definately have to consider Kathy for my "tank" purchase. I've already been bitten HARD by the bug...lol. I REALLY would like to have another Henderson tartan... either the muted or weathered. But, now that I think about it, the modern may look better in a "tank." I don't know... I'm a sick sick man and it's just begun. sigh.
