Over the years I have seen similar instances - not too often but enough to help keep the faith. Without it I would have been gone from the profession decades ago. Good for you. Good for her.

Some of these kids will go through school being labeled and not taught. If some teachers have a propblem inspiring them they sometimes give up. There is always hope that one teacher can get through and touch a nerve. It might have only taken one little thing to pull this child out of her shell.
That one little thing may turn into a big thing if it shows the child there is something out there for them in the future and they can do things they never thought possible before.
MacHummel, if there is one great story out of the whole bunch of kids you talked too that day, that's a very great day. To be the one who inspired a child makes a lifetime of teaching worthwhile.
