I don't have a 5 yard wool kilt at this point, but I do have a few 4-5 yard kilts in polyviscose.

I think the 8 yard wool traditionals are the end goal for most (not all) but most. It is a dress kilt for really nice occasions, and it is still something you can wear to the pub or the match, or to the games.

The 5 yard to my knowledge is listed as a "casual" kilt. Now from what I gather, they are made the same way, but with less material (and for less $$$$). So while the 5 yard wool kilt is good for casual wear, it is usually made to still look good with an kilt jacket at a Burns night. The 5 yard is also good for people that may live in hotter climate areas and fear the heat of the 8 yard wool kilt (it's not that hot). I know that my next kilt will be a 5 yard in 14 oz wool.

These threads may shine some more light on the subject.

If that fails, start a new thread on why a 5 yard kilt would be good to start and ask the masses the pros and cons of each. The experience of the board is there for the asking, and believe me, they will give you more than you can bargain for.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

Welcome from the Northeast coast of Florida. Well, quite a lot of helpful information already. Is this a great place or what?

    Cheers! Bill

    SB,
Welcome from another Buckeye stater, Canton here.
Others have already given you some excellent advice, so I'm just chiming in to say welcome and enjoy!
