Aye, that is an amazingly beautiful tartan.

Just me, I'd show it off by staying plain and solid color with everything else except matching flashes on solid hose.

Ya gotta let that kilt shine, its incredible.

I really like to defend the diced hose for this outfit...will look very nice with the Montrose doublet.

This picture doesn't give a good idea of the "final" look I think....no sporran, no belt, unfinished jacket, no jabot and hidden in a corner behind the fridge.

I'm very sure the final result will look stunning!

I'd go for classic Oatmeal or cream hose.Or even white popcorns.
-Oatmeal...not for full dress (maybe when it matches the tartan)
-Cream...is not classic, a fairly new "invention"
    -Popcorn? Yikes!

    -Argyll hose...nice!
    -Tartan hose...way cool!

Please forgive me guys...I'm the tartan/diced hose nutter inhere

About the flashes...what about lovat or ancient blue? will match the kilt nicely.

Can't wait to see the pictures when the outfit is ready for battle.

    Cheers!

First off, I must say. I have ALWAYS been a huge fan of this MacBeth tartan. BEAUUUUUUTIFUL!! I love my tartan (Henderson) but if I could pick anotehr.. it'd bee this one

I like the diced hose look. But, I think I agree with a few of the others in that these are a bit overpowering with that tartan. I think the off-white would be your best bet.

I'm getting married in... wow hadn't put it into perspective till now ... but in less than 3 weeks. I'm wearing the tartan in my avatar, and I plan to wear off white SWK hose with it. I'm also wearing a plain black day sporran (yeah, yeah, yeah... it's no formal aye?) But, my wedding isn't that of a traditional Scotsman either. Actually the only things Scottish there will be Me, my kilt, and one of the bride's maids (who just so happens to be a MacBeth! HAHA.) So, I figured I'd just do what I like as far as the kilt attire. I have everything except the top half. I'm renting a PC from Kathy Lare (thanks River for pointing me in her direction ) I'll do the usual (tux shirt with black bowtie.) All my men are going to be Tuxed. Exctiing times. Be sure and keep pictures posted as you get it all together. I'll do the same when my PC from kathy comes in.

I'll post more photos with the rest when the jacket is done. I may not have the jabot and cuffs done, but it'll give a better idea. I'll also post a picture with my off white hose to show the two options I have.

The overpowering colors is what I was worried about. These are more modern colors, while the kilt is Ancient. I think there would be no question if these would go with the Modern Macbeth tartan. But, something else that occurd to me, these hose are also darker, which help balance the large black space of the doublet. Okay, so that's thinking more in art terms than fashion, but I know more about art than fashion!

    Cheers,
    Nick

    Nick:

Have you considered black hose with the tartan flashes? The black kilt hose will balance the top (IMHO) and give a formal finish to your outfit.

BTW the very best to you and your future Bride!

    Nick,

I agree with Robin in that your tartan hose (which are gorgeous, by the way) will look just amazing with the Montrose doublet and, I hope, the lace jabot and cuffs! Montrose doublets MUST have the lace!!

However, amazing though that combination will be - you just cannot wear that super kilt with it. I am sorry, but it looks like an unfortunate mix of tartans! If you're going for tartan hose, it MUST contain the prominent colours in the tartan of the kilt.

Oatmeal hose is too casual for such a formal outfit. I'd recommend off-white or cream hose - not stark white please - with tartan flashes to match the kilt.
