Some of those modern tartans are very dark, it is difficult to get all of the colors to show up clearly in a photograph, the blue stripe in my district of argyll tartan kilt almost never shows in a photograph, the red stripe always shows up clearly.
The badge on your sporran looks like the regimental badge of the long-gone 26th Reg't (Cameronians/Scottish Rifles). Am I right? I have an old military balmoral from that regiment - dark green, black tourrie, no dicing - with a badge that looks just like yours....

You are correct, my dad was in the regiment during the war
