Cheap Durable Kilts

I was following the thread about durable kilts with great
interest when it was unfairly deleted. Since it was obviously
about kilts, and how to make them last longer, I'm bringing
the topic up again.

That thread was about women's lacrosse skirts and one man's quest to get a similar version made for men under the guise of a kilt. It was also turning into a discussion that was not appropriate for the mandate of Xmarks.

If you want to have a thread about the durability of kilts, and how to make them last longer, than good luck with the thread, I am sure there are a lot of good suggestions.

I had another thought. How about cordouroy.
I don't know if it is made the same as it was
when I was a kid, because it seemed like a
plowed field then, compared to what I see in
stores now, but the cords I had back then
seemed to never wear out.

I doubt you could make one from a full
8 yards due to thickness, but a 4 yard
one should be possible.

I recently got one of the UK cordouroy kilts. My first thought was that it would be one of my colder day kilts. Instead to my surprise, it is probably the coolest (temp wise) UK I own (except for the spartan). Very comfortable on hot days. I bought it used (it was one of the dark brown prototypes) so it is about a year old now. It is holding up as well as all my UK's.

Two suggestions to look in to

(1) The Stillwater Economy Kilts

(2) Sport Kilt

I got a Sport kilt for my son. It isn't fancy by any means, but it does seem durable and excellent for athletic use (at the Highland games last weekend in Campbell I saw a lot of sport kilts on the competitors.

Does anyone out there have a Sportkilt or Stillwater Economy review for our man Robinhood?

About Sport Kilt: I have ordered from Sport Kilt twice now. Once for my son's Royal Stewart kilt which I think is excellent for a child's kilt. I also ordered him white kilt socks (very sturdy) and a $12 kilt pin which seemed a good deal. I'm not so happy with the cheap $6 kilt socks I got for myself. They seem to be balling rather nastily for only one wash so far. I was very pleased with the customer service of Sport Kilt, my phone order was easily taken and I recieved my order in less than a week.

She was interested in their kilted mini skirts*. I put in a second order (online)for one for her along with a diced Glengarry for myself. I'll post a review when we get it (which should be tomorrow or Friday).

Now that the summer heat has hit I like the idea of a light weight casual kilt for me (I just can't keep wearing only my wonderful UK Mocker.) Maybe I need a USA Casual kilt.


* My lovely wife, the Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Godesss, wondered if I was happy that she was supporting me by getting a kilted miniskirt in the loud McCleod. In truth the tartan and Scottish connection was completely beside the point, I was happy she was getting a miniskirt!

I thought Union Kilt (look up at the top of this page) also made cordouroy kilts.

I think leather would be the way to go for durablity but expense wise it wouldn't be cheap. I agree with Raphael you get what you pay for I really like wearing my denim kilt and my canvas kilts they are very durable and not as expensive as leather if you check my website there is a pic of me in my 8yrd army green kilt and como of the camo kilt in action I'll be wearing my denim this weekend helping a friend move.

Take note, kilt makers, SportKilt is meeting my request right now, I bought 7 kilts from them two days ago ... SEVEN! Ok, Colin, quick draw your deletion wand and zap me right off of here, we all know you want to.

Glad you found someone to fill your order.....I am happy that they have your business....I wish you much success with your purchase. However, I will say it's not unusal for us to have clients that order several kilts at one time.....
So I have taken note and it's really fine by me.
