    old cantle to new sporran

I bought this sporran on E bay from a member of this board

the front is seal skin in bad sape and the pocket is too small for real use

But the cantle has real possibilities , and looks alot like those used in the 18th century. So I thought that I could use the cantle to make a more useable sporran in an 18th century style

I've got one very similar to that which I bought on e-bay...The sporran itself is almost as disheveled as yours...but the cantle is great!

should be a good looking new sporran when you get it done!

I redesigned the bag using deer hide and then lined the bag with wool to give it some body

also will place a small pocket on the inside

and yes, it is prolly 18th century. The one I have ( slightly different cantle, same sporran design) was from around 1850 or so...

the new one looks very interesting...

yes, the body of the old sporran is intact but as you can see the front is in bad shape and missing much hair
also there were tassels but they were missing from the bag

Starting to sew the gussett to the front of the sporran bag

the back of the bag is just about done and the front is starting to shape up

The small pocket will be used to hold a change purse or keys

The pocket on the antique sporran was too small for everyday use

So I designed the whole back to open
this gives me a large opening and larger pocket
