UK Mocker Mods
Well, when they say please allow eight weeks for delivery, they mean it. And some change.
Two months ago, I ordered a khaki UK mocker, which arrived today while I was exercising the dog (pulled up, and I waited about 10 minutes or so before the driver emerged from the van - MAN - talk about getting impatient!).
I was suprised to find the following two modifications since my last mocker order, sometime last year:
- two snaps on either side of apron at waistband - for beltless wearing
- light-weight fabric, rather than twill, for the front and rear pockets, reducing the overall weight of the UK considerably while improving the hang and general comfort.

Rex,
I like the idea of the snaps at either side of the waistband. It would help for a more "fitted" look. at the waist.

Not sure if the snaps at the waistband are a new mod or just now standard on the Mocker. I purchased one off of eBay late last year that had this, but I seem to recall the seller mentioning that it was an option they paid extra for. Nice if you ask me, and it does make it possible to forego the belt.
Now if I had just lost as much weight as I thought when I purchased it, I might be able to wear it!

That's the problem with the waist snaps, they fit you where they fit you. No waist snaps will actually give you about an inch either way.
The web site makes no mention of this being standard now. I also thought it was just an extra you could add.

Thanks for that info Rex,
New to me. Never would have guessed it.
Have three mockers, none with waist snaps.
Agree, there's more range for us fatties without them.

Congrads on the new Kilt, Rex!
Would love to see some pics when you get a chance
My mocker does not have the waist band snaps. Not sure I would like them. The snaps seem appropriate for my Survival, though.
Enjoy your new UK!

Someone posted this morning on the UK Yahoo group that they just received an original UK that had waist snaps. Maybe this is something they are trying out, or maybe someone ordered the mod on two kilts and then cancelled and UK decided to try and pawn them off on their next two customers. Very strange.

With my own made kilts I wear a 1.5inch belt - I just don't have the vertical space between ribs and hips for high rise waistlines.
If I made kilts with rigid waists I would need to change kilts several times a day to be comfortable, as my waist must vary at least three if not four inches between putting on and off. Either that or wear a kilt which only fitted perfectly for about 1/2 an hour a day.
It might not be everyone's problem, but I would think that adjustable or adapting waistbands would be a good design feature.

My first UK custom original arrived last week and it had the same 4 snaps on the waist-band. I am a big fan for several reasons, one of which is the snaps do make it eisier to put on in the morning if a belt needs to be swapped between kilts.
I have the snaps on my UK Survival (Ebay) but not on my Workingman or Camo Original (Ebay and Ebay). Owning the same kilt both ways I have to say I like the snaps, and nobody says you have to snap them.
Just my 2 cents

UM.....Okay.....it just goes to show you how times change.....
I am totally brand new to this whole thing and I have 5 Utilikilts now (2 originals, three mockers) and they all have four waistband snaps.
I just thought that was the way they were always made.
.....and by the way I did wear my original tan Original without a belt on at least one instance I can remember. I was just wearing the kilt and a T-shirt, slipped on some flip-flops and went for a walk outside for some reason....either to take out the trash or get some water.
HA-HA....sounds almost like I'm going out to the well for water because we don't have running water in Phoenix. We do, but it tastes awful and no one drinks it.
