That is truly awesome news. My ancestry is mostly Scots, but Swiss, (Irish, & Norwegian) also make(s) an appearance. The Swiss comes from my paternal grandmother, who is probably the most skeptical of my kilted behavior. She's not too harsh (she was a professional seamstress & she really appreciates the fine quality of a well-done job), but she does worry about what other people think. I've pointed out that she married a man of Scottish ancestry, and she has a few Scots in the woodpile herself, so it's only natural that I would develop an interest in the wearing of the kilt. I'd like to have a kilt made in the Swiss tartan, go visit grandma, and explain to her that I'm doing it to express my Swiss pride!

    moved thread...

I've moved this thread to the heraldry and tartans section.

I like the tartan, especially the "swiss flag" symbolism. Very appropriate, since the Scots and Swiss share a common heritage as the "mercenaries of Europe"!

    Cheers,

    Todd

My Swiss neighbors told me about that this morning, I think it is awesome, tartan and having it official.

A normal kilt costs SFr670-900 ($540-725), while those coveting a top-of-the-line Harris tweed model need to shell out as much as SFr1,300.
Clearly the reporter does not have a depth of knowledge in the subject. Still, a positive report.

Wow - that's a bright tartan! Looking forward to seeing how it looks in a kilt. Perhaps Victorinox will be persuaded into manufacturing a multi-purpose sgian dubh as well as a red & white sporran.

    A nice look.

I don't have any Swiss blood that I know of, but I'd sure love to have a kilt in that tartan, go back to Albuquerque, find that drunk in the supermarket parking lot that hollared "Hey Switzerland!" to me...so I could say, "Hey! You're right! How'd you know?"
