Kiltnapped Kilt

These are pics of My Locharron, Ancient Macneil Tartaned "Tank", which was "kiltnapped" by my daughter and carried with her to her class at Argosy University on Friday. The Other kilt in the pics is a Casual Macneil tartaned kilt from Scottish Kilts, shown for comparison. I will post more pics later today, wearing the new kilt.

Next, number of Pleats on the "tank" and pleat depth. I cound 29 or 30 plearts. The depth shows at just over 3 inches, but is actually closer th 3 and 1/2 inches. Turning the ruler sideways show it can be read more easily loses some depth.

Last pic is the Modern tartaned casual. I count 17 pleats and the depth appears to be about 1 and 3/4 inches. Yes there is a heck of a lot of difference in a full 8 or 9 yard kilt and a 5 yard casual. This newone is a full 9 yards of 16 oz Pure Scottish wool from Locharron mills as opposed to 5 yards of 13 OZ wool from Scottish kilts.

It appears that the set on the Lochcarron tartan is quite a bit larger than on the tartan from Scottish Kilts. If I have understood correctly from Barbs book that would be at least one things that accounts for the difference in pleat depth.

I think I am starting to understand. Did I get that right?

They both look great but the Ancient tartan has a contrast that shows all the colors of the pattern a little better. I like that! Did Lochcarron make the kilt as well as the tartan?

The sett is larger on the Locharron, and they did make the kilt.

Great looking tank, Jerry! I find that I prefer the Ancient colors for many tartans as it seems to keep the dark blues/greens/black more distinguishable…

I really appreciate the comparisons of Kilts especially visually as you have done. They both look great, and I certainly am glad that you got into the comfort mode and took those pics of the new one.

If there is anything improper about your attire, it is the long-sleeved, dark shirt in that oppressive atmosphere. I was in last week's tropical climate in central Virginia, and could only stand sandals, a light polypro T-shirt, and a light camo kilt. I am a firm believer in kilted casualness.

Your kilt looks great, which, by definition, makes you look great wearing it.

So, your daughter is supportive of you wearing kilts. Is she placing her kilt order through you?...
