Thank you all for your warm greetings. To answer the questions posted in no particular order, after doing much research on the net, I purchased a UK original model in black. I lived in bonnie Dunoon in Argyllshire on the banks of the Firth of Clyde for two years as a civilian employee of the U.S. Navy. (For those interested in such things, the U.S. used to maintain a Polaris Submarine base in Holy Loch, which is adjacent to Dunoon, but no longer does.)

Thanks also for the helpful suggestions as to when and where to wear my new prized possession. While I understand and admire the philosophical underpinnings of the replies, I must say that even here in freewheeling San Francisco (where I work but don't reside), I can only recall seeing one person on the streets in a kilt (a brawny lad in a UK) unless, of course, there was a bagpipe involved. Those of you living in Ohio, Colorado, North Carolina, and the like, do you really go about your daily life kilted?

    Best regards,

    Jake

I wear a suit to the office, but when I get home I will change into a kilt as easily - if not more easily - as anything else. When I feel somehow obligated to wear trousers, I feel a pang of anxiety standing in front of the closet - as I'd rather wear the kilt.

    You'll see how it is...

    Regards,
    Rex in Ohio

Jake, I work in a kilt daily- but that's in my home office!
However, I also wear it to walk the dog, go to the mall, out to dinner, etc. Sure, I've heard some snide remarks, but those mostly get squashed by someone other than me! see this thread If I didn't spend so much time on motorcycles, I'd probably go kilted 90% of the time. You'll probably find that a kilt in San Francisco doesn't raise many eyebrows.

    Greetings Jake...

You'll find that this is a diverse group of people. There are probably as many reasons for wearing a kilt as there are members. There are quite a few that have embraced the kilt to the exclusion of trousers and also lots of folks that wear them for special occasions only. I rarely wear mine during the week but very often on weekends. It's quite true that the more places you wear a kilt, the more places you will want to wear your kilt. I've found a ballance that works for me and, no doubt, you will too.

    Cheers,
    blu

    Jake,
I'm right in the heart of Ohio, here in Canton, a drinking town with a football problem. It was a little tricky at first, now I just strap it on and go, out to dinner, to the pub, downtown to the local Blues Fest, and occasionally to the parish (doesn't hurt that the priest and his sons are all kilties!).
Really, once you get over the initial jitters, it's quite habit forming!
    Again, welcome to the forum!
