It is a very nice tartan. I was concerned when I ordered it that it might be too light in color, too dancer-ish, but I have been very pleased. The weathered colors are very nice. It matches with a black, green, brown, tan, and (if I could find one) a slate shirt. And since the colors are weathered, it does not have to be such an exact color match, IMO.
Well sadly, the Weathered Lamont is no longer listed as being available from SWK, and Jerry seems to make the heavyweight kilts for guys he can measure personally. I doubt even he would come all this way to measure me AND to deliver the kilt later! Maybe I can ask Howie/Geoffrey (Tailor) to build one for me instead, but it'll have to wait as I currently have five kilts on order and I am supposed to be saving my pennies for my Californian trip in October!!!

Ham, I just checked the SWK site and it does seem that Jerry has discontinued the weathered Lamont (so sad), even though it is still the cover pictures for linking to his heavy weight kilts.

Anyway, please keep us informed on a possible trip. Would love to meet up with you, and I would even consider donating my weathered Lamont the to Kollection (for proper recompense of course!), as I believe you and I are of similar sizes.

Might your trip encompass the dates for the Stone Mountain highland Games? One of the largest in the Southeast US?

    Rob!

What a magnanimous gesture! I am deeply touched but would never dream of depriving a fellow spirit of his kilt, even for fair recompense! Heartfelt thanks to you nevertheless. No, if necessary, I'll have one of my regular kiltmakers over here get working on it.

My October trip, if it happens, will be in the first two weeks of the month and will have me based in Palm Springs, California for about ten days, as guest of non-kilting friends of a kilted friend back here. I'll most likely be at the mercy of my hosts during that time and it will probably be difficult for me to travel elsewhere. I'll know more nearer the time.

It would be GREAT to meet up with as many of you as possible, as happened on my other trips to Canada and the USA in recent years, but this time I might not have much 'say' in what I do or where I go. Now, if we have any brethren based in or near Palm Springs, I'd think a Kilts Night might be a possibility!

Well, the desert eat usually slacks off around the second week of October. If you can break free for an evening - may not be possible, I know - and if we time it right, we might get quite the SoCal crowd there for a kilt night.

    Regards,
    Scott Gilmore
