Oh absolutely. I'm fixing to give in and get some immediate gratification of a less expensive kilt. I know I want to wait and save for a tank from Kathy... but I'm gonna impulse and get an Irish National semi from USAK. Yeah, still more than $80... but from they rave reviews, I HAVE to. Man, can't wait.

A wool 8-yarder is the least practical, most expensive Scottish-style kilt and is mainly for formal wear. I recommend buying a few less expensive general-purpose kilts for casual wear, which will see much more use than a formal kilt.

    KiK,

You have no idea how many times I looked at the Stillwater Standard Black Stewart and Irish National and thought "I could order both of them right now! NOW! NOW!" as I was saving for my first custom kilt. There will still be kiltmakers out there when you are ready. Enjoy your new Stillwater!

    Cheers

The idea of buying a mega expensive kilt is out of the question for my budget. But I am really satisfied by Stillwater Kilts.

I figure one day when I am older I will save money for a 500$ tank. But right now I am wearing the exact kilt you just ordered, and it feels great . ^_^

I've gone this route myself as have many others. I just recently made the jump for a traditional 16 oz 8 yd and sent the first installment to Barb T. I appreciate the opportunity to split the cost over a couple of payments. It gives me time to save for the second installment. I like the "pay forward" idea better than a credit card payment that would include interest. It means the kilt is mine when it arrives and not the banks. Saves a few dollars and I'm not owing anyone (must be the Scot in me). The only downside is the wait but then anything of quality that is custom made takes time.

    Cheers! Bill

Thanks for encouraging me (like I need convincing) . I actually wanted reasons ie. specific quality differences, that will make the wait/cost worthwile. I already suffer kilt addiction like a moth to the flame, and could really use soemthing to refrence back to. Thanks

    KIK,
Since you know Jerry does a good job, have you thought about getting the 16oz. Blackwatch from him? It's only $160. I know what you mean though $45-$90 is a good deal easier to swallow.
I will likely follow the same path and obtain a number of less expensive kilts before ordering any kind of tank.

I too have given into temptations too many times. I kept convincing myself that I don't need a handsewm 8 yarder. Now that I have 7 causal kilts, I probably will sav up for a nice 8 yarder.
