Step 2. Buy Hose.
Step 3. Buy flashes.
Step 4. Buy sporrans.
Step 5. Buy kilt pins.
Step 6. Buy fly plaids.
Step 7. Buy jackets.
Step 8. Buy sgian dubhs.
Step 9. Buy shoes.
Step 10. Learn to make kilts.
Step 11. Hang out on X-Marks.
Step 12. Repeat as necessary and have a good time with friends and family.

Ah...that's sooooo cute!
Hose, flashes, kiltpin, sporran and belt. (sgian dubh is not a must)
All the other stuff is less important...you'll hardly wear it anyway.
Matching shirts, polo shirts and sweaters can make you look top notch for most occasions.
For special occasions an Argyll jacket and a (semi)dress sporran.
Black tie events...Prince Charlie jacket or a doublet with a dress sporran.
No hurry with these "outfits" I guess.

You may want:
brogues/wingtips, flashes, kilt pin if your kilt is lightweight or you're into jewellery, kilt jacket/short jacket for casual wear.
I reckon kilt and hose is enough for many outings.
