Caffe Nero (just across the way from The Harpenden Arms) has a WiFi access account with Surf and Sip (it costs £5 a day subscription), if you need to use the internet. I haven't seen any Internet Cafes in Harpenden, so you'd need a laptop.

The Gathering site is in a park just a short walk from The Harpenden Arms (about 200 yards), which in turn is about half-a-mile from the railway station. If you're driving, parking is on a large grassed area opposite The Silver Cup and about 200 yards from the Gathering site.

If you're following the M1, you should come off at Junction 10 and follow the A1081 into Harpenden, driving through the town to the parking site; or turn off onto the A5 at Junction 9, and follow the signs round onto the A5183 (possibly signposted to Redbourn) and then into Harpenden and the parking lot.

The Gathering site is pedestrian access only.

I suppose somebody will have to volunteer to find out which of the local hostelries sells the best Islay malt (can't be me, I won't be there again for a while) - which is your preference, Hamish: Bruichladdich, Caol Islay, Bowmore, Lagavulin, Laphraoig? Or some other?

It will not be me either. I'm not going anywhere near Harpenden until the day prior to The Gathering. My friends just outside the town, with whom I am staying for the event, are not pub-frequenters and so they would not have any idea either!

Now David, here you force me into a corner, although I have mentioned it at X Marks in the past: I confess I do not enjoy whisky (or rather, it does not like me)! I keep Famous Old Grouse for medicinal purposes, and I have Glenfarclas, Glenmorangie Port wood finish and Cragganmore 12 yo for my guests! I'll be more than happy with a cider on the day!

Cider's good, too - especially in summer. Farm labourers used to get something like half-a-gallon a day during the reaping season, apparently.
