Hey, I'm serious about a kilted AA meeting...or going to a local Las Vegas AA meeting kilted....for those of us who qualify of course.

If its too hot, or still cool with snow, Mt. Charleston isn't that far from Las Vegas for a kilted trip.

Las Vegas was gonna get a fleet of 50 double decker English buses to run up and down the strip. Don't know if it happened...if it did we could kilt up a double decker bus.

Or we could all go to Hart and Hunington and get matching X Marks tattoos.

This really sounds like a good idea. I'm not a golfer either, but would love to get together with the other non golfers to wander the strip & see the sites.

Attending one or more shows as a group could be interesting. There are singers, magicians, comedians, and the more adult shows (the kilted rabble hitting Crazygirls comes to mind). Any or all, depending on personal preference could be arranged. We might even be able to swing a group discount.

For those interested, there are a couple of Hooters restaurants in Vegas. Of course, The Tilted Kilt would have priority.

OK, I have two suggestions...

1.) Hiking at Red Rock Park, about 4-5 miles out of town is simply spectacular, I *HIGHLY* recommend it. The rock formations are absolutely stunning, and after you climb about 1.5 - 2 miles to the top, you get a view of the entire basin that holds the City of Las Vegas. In fact, if I were going, I'd volunteer to lead the hike since I've been there twice, but ce la vie. The setting is desert-like and a bit stark, but it's truly beautiful and it's very easy to get to, from town. If you want to hike further than that, there are trails that start at the general parking area and take off for miles and miles in the mountains. In April, especially early april there will likely be good wildflowers, too. You will get to experience the amazing contrasts of the Nevada mountain desert....large views of expansive geologic beauty, and tiny explosions of color and life down close to the ground. If you're from back East and have never seen this sort of landscape and love the out-of-doors, you will enjoy this.


2.) Also, I highly recommend catching one of the Cirque du Soleil shows that are resident in town. They're expensive, but if you've never seen Cirque du Soleil, it's quite an experience...HINT Guys, your women are going to be bored to bloody DEATH talking about kilts for a three-day weekend. Word to the wise: schedule a couple of things that are non-kilt-wearing-female-friendly. Extra hint...ogling the barmaids in The Tilted Kilt doesn't qualify. Cirque du Soleil certainly qualifies.

I'll second Alan's suggestion about the Cirque shows. Very nice, and since I will be traveling with family if I make it, family friendly activities should be included.

The hiking also sounds really nice. There is also white water rafting available. And maybe a side trip to the Grand Canyon?

By next year the Cirque Du Soleil Beatles production will be up & running - that is definitely a "must see" show in my book!!!

I haven't notice any mention is this thread about coinciding a convention with the Las Vegas Highland Games which is held, I think, on the 3rd weekend in April. I think that would be a natural tie-in. Maybe even set up a booth & display the X Marks kilt, t-shirt, kilt pin, etc.

RR, that would be a great tie-in (the LV Games!). And I think that the Beatles Cirque show has already started or will very soon. That would also be a great event.

This sounds like a great time, I will get it in my callendar. There is so much to do outside Vegas as had been said. Transportation can be arranged to some really nice spots. I am not a gambler, but the shows, and people watching is great craik. I plan on bringing my mountain bike and getting a few rides in. If any Xmarkers ar looking to get there wheels dirty this could be added to the events list. "Xmarks Mountain Bike Ride" Bikes can also be rented in the area too. Kilts are not too practical for bicycles, but the perfect transition garment.
