Well I'm a long time Pagan and stout supporter of the Celtic traditions, and you're very welcome beloitpiper. You'll fit in just fine around here.
Erin.
Welcome to the rabble of kilties. Enjoy the wit (always) and wisdom (sometimes) displayed here.
It is a truth that traditional Scottish tartan handsewn kilts are expensive. Beginning a few years ago, I made my very own first kilt from a piece of upholstery material. Since then I've sewn kilts of almost all styles and materials, by hand and with machine, and have enjoyed wearing every one for different purposes as the ocassion required. The tartan is still expensive.
My next big project is to turn out a handsewn kilt in traditional styling using a private-run tartan... XMarksTheScot! Of course, I'll sew it while wearing a contemporary casual kilt made from USMC desert digital camo because it's easier to brush all the threads and lint from.
The point: Function determines my choice of kilt.
As far as making kilted friends here, we're pretty civil and friendly... until we meet each other personally.
