    Kilted at the movies

Sunday I took the Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess and our son Sinbad to lunch and to see “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”. I wore my Utilikilt and all three of us wore head scarves a la’ Jack Sparrow err… Captain Jack Sparrow. We entered whistling "Yo ho, Yo ho a Pirate's Life for me". We got a few smiles from the people waiting for their shows.

The theatre was fairly crowded but I found some rather good seats . The macho looking fellow next me had multiple tattoos and was in “biker” attire. I wondered if no one had chosen to sit next to him and his lady because of how he was dressed. As we waited for the movie to start I did wonder if he was going to hassle me about how I was dressed. Just before the previews started he leaned over to me and pointed at my UK Mocker. I thought “Here we go..“ He then said “That’s one of those Utility Kilts isn’t it? I wanted to buy one at the Ben Lomond Highland Games last year. I didn’t because I was wearing cowboy boots and thought that they would look really stupid with the kilt. I’m going to get one this year .“ I chatted with him for a little a bit about the different Utilikilts and their website. The lights dimmed and the previews started.

I thought to myself people shouldn't be judged by their appearance, that goes for kilt wearers too.

    Cheers

Very good! On a recent trip to Kentucky I ran into the kentucky chapter of the Hell's Angel's... Yes the real deal!! They were all very polite..

I have found that most "Big Bad Biker Types" are nice friendly people!

I've been kilted at every movie I've seen in the past year. Never any problems, just the usual onlookers and snickering teenagers in front of the theatre. Usually one person per movie will say something along the lines of "nice kilt" or ask what tartan I am wearing.

Over all, I'd say it is of little consequence to wear a kilt to the movies.

I generally have more issues with the teenages who can't unglue the cellphone from their ear for the duration of the film than comments on my clothing.

Cool. I've met some cool bikers as well. And I've met some of 'evil' blackmetal people from Norway. They're also quite nice and down to earth, when not on stage... Appearances can deceive...

Anywho, is it really true that you have to get to the movies in good time in order to get good seats?

I just reserve a seat online (get a diagram of the hall, and click on the seat(s) you want)or by phone, that way I can walk in at 19:00 exactly (if that's the time the movie starts) without having to worry about a seat. It's standard procedure in all theatres I've been to here in the country.

All of the movie theaters I've been to in the United States have "general seating," which means one buys a ticket, walks in, and picks a seat.

In most cases, this means having to get there 15-20 minutes early to get a decent seat. On opening day, it might mean getting there 3-4 hours early to get tickets, let alone a seat.

    I've seen it twice

If you liked the first one you will definately like the second one, good humour, fantastic action sequences ,and delightful visuals, Keira isn't bad on the eyes either

Kilted is probably the most comfie way to see a movie.

Last two years I've gone black-kilted to our town's big Oktoberfest - a biker rally. Never a problem, many compliments and where to buy questions.
