I've not had any real criticism from any of my family...maybe a raised eyebrow here and there but if they're not gung-ho on board about it, they at least aren't making an issue out of it.

I do have a problem with one of my friends, though. This is a woman who I met while our children were attending the same elementary school and we both served on the Local School Council...we faced a lot of adversity in our dealings with the "powers that be" while trying to advocate for the school and that forged a really strong bond between us...this woman sort of became the slightly-younger-sister-that-I-did-not-have...not to fault my mom and dad...they were just good at having boys. Anyway, her husband and I became fast friends. He doesn't seem to give a rat's about the kilt thing...he has actually mulled the idea of getting one but insists that it must be in a red tartan so that it is instantly recognizeable as a kilt...somehow red=kilt...? But I guess that my lady friend seems to think that I am either turning into a crossdresser or compromising my masculinity or just trying to attract attention by wearing the kilt. Son and I were guests of my friend's church group yesterday as they took a group to a minor league baseball game (the home team scored eleven runs in the first inning...something like two grand slams in one inning!)...this would have been a totally natural kilt-wearing occaision for me but in deference to her I just threw on a pair of cargo pants...she's just one of those people who can give you that LOOK that you would rather avoid and normally I would care less...but in her case I honestly just feel downright bad that she has a problem with this. Hopefully she'll get used to it...that or we'll end up on Maury Povich.
