So I bought this kilt on Ebay...(help?)

It's very cool and is my first wool kilt. Sold as a military kilt from the Gordon Highlanders. It's in great shape except for the straps which need to be replaced.

One problem though...it's too small! I could reposition the buckles which would put the pleats on my right side toward the back of my right thigh. Is that too far over? I'd hate to have to resell it.

Any help or more info would be great!

I would think that would make the apron kind of sparse across the front as well. Personally, you might want to reconsider and look for a beter fitting one.

That being said... what size is it and how much might you want to re-sell it?

Actually, the apron would still sit fine. It's the location of the pleats that concerns me.

As for size...I'm one of the smaller mammals. It was listed as a 30" (seems smaller though) and I usually wear a 31-32".

Since the straps are not in particulary good condition... what about replacing them with longer straps? For the sake of an inch or two, would it make that much diffrence. just a thought.

I was already planning on replacing the straps actually.

Just worried that the pleats being positioned so far back on the right side might be "inappropriate" somehow.

I may be wrong, but if you adjust the kilt appropriately then the left and right side pleats should fall in comparable places. If you move the right side straps, you should also be moving the left strap as well. That keeps the kilt centered on your body. That was why I was thinking it would be too small for you entirely. If you meant just moving the right straps made the pleats fall on/near your thigh, then moving both should eliminate that problem and make it fit just fine.

I thought I'd add my 2 pennys worth. That is the size that I wear (30-31). I have several of those kilts and I've found that all of them are an inch or more smaller than the label says. Hecter Russell by the way is one of the finest kiltmakers out there. You've got an excellant kilt.

Very cool. Thanks for the info. I have no experience with wool kilts but this does seem quite well made. It also does appear to run a bit small in size.

I really love it but I'm afraid it may be just too small.

On the plus side, I've gotten my hands on a heavyweight kilt and may just have to get another.

I'm a Gordon, and I'd LOVE a kilt from the Highlanders, if you're willing to part from it...

I may have to part with it unfortunately. Is it your size?

Let me see if I can work a solution out first though.
