Scot or not? Who really cares?

In the past couple of years I have tried to find something out about my heritage. The bits and pieces I've been able to gather up from my parents have left me with not much. I know my maternal grandmother was a McCutcheon and my father told me he was 1/4 Scots/Irish (which should make me about 1/8 or so from his side)

Anyway ... to make a long story short (too late) I almost want to go back to saying I'm a purebred mutt ... but I love the kilt ...

Wore my first one about 2 years ago to the Ren faire near Phoenix. It was a piece of thrift store material (sorta-kinda black watch in design) that I folded myself ... wore that to the faire in Prescott Valley as well ... got married in a McWalmart kilt it was a brightly coloured attempt at the McDonald tartan (McCutcheon is sept of McDonald clan) - I now have my first UK, a black mocker, on the way ... it's been 7 weeks now and I'm not really THAT patient LOL

Ok, so now you have it and know something about me.

    Cheers!
    Jim

    Welcome aboard!

    And, its MacWal

By the way, what is your surname (or its heritage, if not want to give it)?

Mine (Wages) seems to be made up and is from either Scottish or German roots (my cousins and I are researching both sides). Yet, they married Scots and and more Scots. My grandmother's family was ALL German. So, I'm about 1/4 German and almost 3/4 Scot (but actual last name is unknown)!

My cousins are almost EACH called "Wage" by their friends. With my Scottish interest, I got termed "MacWage." As my father is called "Wage" by his cousins, I really AM MacWage ("son of Wage")!

If you hang out here, you'll see folks of many origins, many of non-Scot. There are national tartans, district tartans, and "general" tartans that are open, regardless of family roots. Also, many pick tartans that they like, or because a friend/hero is of that family. The KEY is to KNOW what it IS and to BE ABLE to SAY something intelligable about it. Meanwhile, others are sticklers and will say "person A can ONLY wear kilts A, C, and Q."

    Enjoy it here!!!

Welcome aboard. It seems as though you have enough bits to be comfortable with a connection.

Note: There seems to be a move afoot to drop the "Mac" in the surname such as Donald instead of MacDonald when referencing the clan. Has anyone else noticed this?

    Cheers! Bill
