A Skean Dhu is a knife, not a bottle opener: and thought one might not wish to wear a knife, lets try to keep that bit of our heritage, and link to the traditions of highland dress intact.
Having said that, it is not uncommon to see chaps carrying their pipe [smoking] in their socks alongside their Skean Dhu.
Too in the days before combat kit for the military, the hose was a handy place to carry a spoon for eating.
So be happy to carry your bottle opener there, but have the common decency not to call it a Skean Dhu: for that would be like calling your ladies handbag a sporran-and as accurate.
