    Dancing with a sporran

So I am going to a "school function" and am going to wear my full kilt suit (of course!) This is kinda like a formal ball, and there will be ballroom dancing and slow dancing and the like. My question: when holding your partner close to you, is the sporran a problem? Should I just slide it to the side, or what? I don't want it to hurt my lady.

Not only is it acceptable but it looks quite dashing. Slide it just far enough to your left hip as to avoid being between you and your date and then re-center it when you leave the dance floor. You'll probably start a fad and all the other guys will wish they had sporrans riding on their hip.

You could swing it to the side... but I've also undone the buckle and taken it completely off.

slide it to the side. If you can trust a place to put it, take it off. Both are perfectly acceptable.

It's not my lady I would be worried about, it's the 'ol fella'
I slide to the side also, having the sporran on a leather strap makes this easier. Also, make sure there is nothing heavy in it.

Plus there's a lot less chance of it catching on her gown, which may set the evening off badly!....

When the wife and I go to Blob's Park for some good ol' polka dancing, I push mine off to the left hip. There are few dances more potentially detrimental to the two of you wearing a sporran than the polka and it works just fine off to the side.
