What do you guys think?
to me ...I don't like the boot look...hose up or down.... I work as a construction boilermaker T.I.G. welder and boots are for work, I try not to wear them anywhere else but the boiler
with shoes:hose up
sandels: I think are OK...and with hose....if the toes are cold put on hose...hahahah ....then again if the toes are cold I'd put shoes on....
I usually wear good running shoes with my jeans....I dont think they look that good with a kilt......someday maybe.......just my thoughts

When I wear hose, I wear them up. I tried the down look, didn't like it on me. If I don't want the warmth or look of the hose, I wear low socks. I also always wear hiking boots unless I'm dressing up, and when I'm dressed up I'm invariably wearing the kilt hose.

I totally agree with you, Robin.
I've been wearing handmade wool hose for the past couple of months, even in hot weather, and I always wear them pushed down. I've become a convert (if you will) and I doubt I'll ever wear anything else for casual wear. The wool hose I have (from USA Kilts) are well made and I have zero heat or odor problems when wearing them during warmer weather (80's and 90's). I generally wear these hose with either brown or black Doc Marten boots (for comfort more so than style).
I seldom go 'dress' (few occasions to do so) but I wear a simple pair of balc wingtips or oxford shoes (not a fan of ghillies) with my cream or colored kilt hose pulled up.
My thoughts: Hose down with boots (unless you're in a very cold climate and need to keep your legs warm), and hose up with brogues/wingtips (etc).

Birks and Kilts?
I'm glad to see that someone with some experience has authorized the wearing of Birkenstocks and Kilts...as that may be my summer work attire if the temp holds at the 28Grad level... now if I can just a deal on a bulk order of Body Glide and Butt Paste!!

Having spent far too much of my childhood in South Texas in extreme heat and humidity, I don't do things much different in the summer than anyother time of year. I'm still wearing my tanks with pulled up wool socks, long sleeve shirts and ties! I even wore a tweed daywear jacket a few days ago and barely broke a sweat. It takes me a few weeks to acclimate to summer each year, but once it happens the heat doesn't bother me one bit. I guess it was having a grandmother who didn't see why a little heat stroke should get in the way of always looking your best.

With a tartan kilt, I always wear shoes/boots and hose. I generally push my hose down with boots and leave them up with shoes. But if it's cold, I leave the socks up regardless. I don't wear sandals (in public) with a traditional kilt.
With a casual kilt, I generally wear sandals in the summer - I have two pairs of Tevas that I alternate (not on a schedule or anything... I'm not "Monk"). One is tan and looks darned good with a khaki original. If it's colder out, I wear boots and socks or hose, generally rolled down but not always. The socks I wear with a kilt are generally of your thicker "rag" sock type. I have a couple pairs of less expensive hose that I wear with them, too.
For the most part, though, I wear traditional kilts when it gets colder out.
I don't wear shoes with casual kilts - I generally don't wear shoes unless I'm wearing pants, I just don't like the look on me. The only exception would be for working out, and I generally work out barefoot.

I cannot imagine how I missed this thread - I would not have done a year or two ago!!
Liking to keep life as simple as possible in a very complicated world: with any kilt, be it traditional tartan or contemporary alternative worn casually, if I am wearing boots then I roll/scrunch down my hose. We do not seem to get real winter weather here anymore, so this applies all year round. [By the way, nowadays I ALWAYS wear kilt hose, never socks!].
If I am wearing the same kilts (not simultaneously, you understand?!) and I am dressing smart-casual, I'll almost certainly be wearing shoes, and so the hose is worn pulled up. Flashes will be added for a tartan kilt, but probably not otherwise - although plain coloured ones have been worn with plain kilts in the past and may be in the future!
With formally worn kilts, kilt suits, etc. it has to be polished shoes with the hose pulled up.
In recent years I have stopped wearing sandals in public (although they can be acceptable with alternative kilts - but not tartan - in very hot weather or at the beach). My feet have never been attractive, but in the past year or so I have developed a discolouration of the skin on the lower legs and ankles, like two very large freckles, which I prefer to keep from public view!!!
