St. Mary's Loch and the Grey Mare's Tail

I took the camera along again on today's hill walk, in the hope of encouraging some of you guys to visit Scotland.

On my drive to the Grey Mair's Tail car park I passed St. Mary's Loch, 45 minutes drive from my house.

This statue of James Hogg, the Ettrick Shepherd overlooks St. Mary's Loch.

Loch of the Lowes is immediately above St. Mary's Loch and linked to it by a very short river.

Traditional British K6 telephone box, where Loch of the Lowes meets St. Mary's Loch. And yes it still works - I 'phoned Ann from here.

A few miles further on, the Grey Mare's Tail is a series of waterfalls, the highest of which is 200 feet.

The Grey Mare's Tail from further up the trail.

By now its a long way back down to the car park.

Half way up is the lonely and lovely Loch Skene (or Skeen) where the water from the surrounding mountain streams collects before tumbling over the Grey Mare's Tail. I had climbed high enough for one morning and walked round the shore of Loch Skene before returning home for lunch.

Beautiful pics as always. And I don't need a reason to visit, just the funds!

Very nice pics. If I could afford it, I'd already be there to see it in person.

I'd love to visit. And I will someday, as soon as time and money allow.

    Thumbs up Many thanks

Just as my friend Phil says, thanks for these great photos. Hope to make a walking tour of Scotland next summer, if childrens' wedding don't get in the way.
