			kilts in Santa Fe, NM?

Does anyone know how open Santa Fe is to kilts? It's a college town and an artsy American Indian place. I was just wondering.
I am planning a trip out there in August and wondered if wearing a kilt would cause a riot or something.

Some small towns can be rough.....

Yes, I tried searching the forum on "Santa Fe" but I was getting matches where everyone wanted "Santa" to bring them more kilts so I gave up

New Mexico has two tartans, an "official" one and an "unofficial" one, "The Land of Enchantment" tartan. The City of Albuquerque also has its own tartan to celebrate the 300th anniversary of it's founding.

Here's an article from the Scottish American Military Society's newsletter:

 http://www.s-a-m-s.org/patriot/featu.../newmexico.htm

And another article about the Albuquerque tartan:

 http://www.scotmall.com/newmexico/AlbuquerqueTartan.htm

There are several Scottish societies, pipe bands, etc. in NM, so I wouldn't imagine any problems with a kilt there.

.... I can hear the song they wrote about it now, "The Atcheson, Topeka and Santa Fe Kilt Riots" and
"Do you know the way to Santa Fe, in a kilt?"

Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

I adore Santa Fe. It sounds as if you are pretty familiar with the city. I would definately forsee no problems with wearing a kilt there. Hey, while you're in the neighborhood you could shoot over to Albuquerque and visit Kathy Lare and get yourself one heck of a kilt ordered!

What you'll see mostly in Santa Fe is southwestern style apparel. You know boots, a few cowboy hats, maybe some indian blanket jackets, that sort of thing.
However, as you say, it is a artist heavy place and a tourist destination besides. A kilt might get some looks, but most would probably ignore it, or perhaps consider it from afar. I would bet that it would be no big deal.

With the cultural diversity of Santa Fe for hundreds of years, and all the Scot stuff just down the road in Albuquerque - including Kathy Lare as mentioned - and Highland games...and the artist mind set of Santa Fe...Kilts gotta be a yawner.
Never had a problem at the Gathering of Nations in Albuquerque - save for the drunk who hollared, "Hey Switzerland!" in his best besotted effort to show his wisdom...

 Go for it!

 I definately wouldn't say "mostly"
As Ron mentioned, it's VERY diverse up there.

If ya wanna wear a kilt, ya gotta stop frettin' about what whole cities are gonna do if ya show up in one.
But maybe you'll figure this out on your own.

 Have an enjoyable, breezy trip.
