SD disc read problems
Any PC geeks out there? I just got a camera that uses SD discs. I have slots for SD's in both my desktop and my laptop. I took a few shots, stuck the disc into the computer, and nothing. When I use Explorer to go to that drive it just tells me to insert a disc. Using Photoshop or other programs to open it didn't work either. I then tried the other computer with exactly the same result.
Deciding that the disc was faulty I purchased another...different make, model, and retailer. Same result.
Any ideas?

Well, I thought I knew a little about computers, but maybe I was wrong. I don't know what an SD disk is!
In any event, presumably it's just another type of media. Have you checked to make sure the disk reader drivers are loaded? How you do so depends on the operating system you're using. Also, did any software or drivers come with the camera?

Scott, it's not a disk at all, rather it is a Secure Digital memory card.
I've only dumped an SD card to a computer once and Windoze XP picked up on the fact that the card had been inserted, so it was painless. Other than that, I'm afraid I am not much help to you. Since you mentioned 'slots' (plural), is it safe to assume you've tried all the available slots?

Bill, Sorry for this question, but are you sure it is in the SD slot? Does using the wire between camera and pc work? If your printer has SD slot does it work there?

Problem solved. Apparently you need to insert the card into the camera BEFORE turning the camera on, which I suppose formats or initializes the card in some way.
Thanks guys.
